How to monetize your niche website
Some webmasters have a website with a great organic traffic and they don’t know how to monetize it well.
I had the same problem with some of my websites and to be honest I am still having the feeling that I can do better with some of my other websites. During the last years I developed an effective way to determine which products my users will find interesting and might accomplished a sale.
The first step was to check which keywords generate the organic traffic. In order to do so you need to use tools like Google Analytics or AWStats. Both are free. Once you set it up start to collect the data for few days. Do not to jump into fast conclusions based on one day data. With Google Analytics you can also define goals. In general a goal is a mechanism to check the characteristic of a specific action. In my case, I wanted to check which keywords lead to an action. For example: in one of my website there are several types of users. Each user is signing up for a different service. I wanted to check which keywords leads to each type of subscription.
Once I had the keywords list next to their website performance I looked at the source of the traffic in terms of demographic. The next thing was to type those keywords in Google and to check the results. Well… I was not interested about the organic results. I already knew that my website is somewhere at the top. I was looking for the paid ads on the right side. Analyzing the paid ads gave me a better understating what I can offer to my visitors. Meaning that if I see an ad from a company or an affiliate that is offering a product targeted to those keywords, than I might consider doing the same. After all, if they are willing to pay for the ad they are expecting to get a profit back.
Note that since most of the traffic came from the US all I needed is to browse on Google website looking for those keywords. However, for those who get traffic out of their country I would recommend to use a web based proxy on that area so you will get Google results correctly. You will find that you get a different results based on your demographic location.
I collect some of the products and the services that have been offered and added them in a very similar way to my website. I did not copy Google Ad format but I tried to send the same message to the user and even to enhance it. With Google ad you have some limitations. On my website I had none ![]()
Of course I had to sign up first to the affiliate network that offered the product.
It took me some time to find the most profitable products. I keep updating the products and the services based on the same principle. It’s a great way to save a lot of time looking for the right product for a niche website.
Unfortunately for some of my websites I did not find the right products to publish on them. I am now trying to enhance my way of work looking for a way to find related products to a given keywords.
